Racing at DYC

Race entry forms can be sent by email to the Sailing Master. Race instructions are in the  DYC Yearbook available here.

Our races are more a family fun activity than serious America’s Cup-style racing — so there’s a role for everyone. Saying that, there are one or two competitive members who might disagree! We even give out trophies if you are lucky enough to win a race…

Activities available as part of the racing include beach BBQ’s, Christmas events, winery visits, Easter breakfasts etc. Associate and Full members without a boat, let the Sailing Master know if you’re keen to get out on the water, and we’ll find you a ride.

End of season prize-giving is the highlight in the club calendar. All boats placed in a race will receive an engraved plaque, while race winners receive a trophy (some of which have significant historic backgrounds).

Your Club Needs You!

None of our sailing activities would be possible without the hard work of our volunteers. We have a number of areas currently seeking members to assist with on-going activities,

  • Start Team

  • Sailing Committee

  • Start/Finish boats

If you fancy keeping your feet dry, the start team are looking for volunteers to assist with boat spotting and other activities. The team will be keen to pass on their experience to new volunteers, who are more than welcome to join. Race starts usually take about an hour or so of your time on Saturday mornings between 9.00am and 10.15am although this may vary depending on individual races.

The sailing committee are also on the look out for new members. Again, there are a number of roles available or, if it’s more comfortable for you, you can be a committee member who helps where they can.

We have a very small group of dedicated start and finish boats. We are always looking to expand this team as there are 18 races in our calendar and we like to share the load. If you have a launch or are a yachtie who does not necessarily want to race but would be keen to be involved, we would love to hear from you. Full instruction will be given to those willing to volunteer.

If you have any interest in the roles above, please contact Mark Sigglekow Email

Friday 23rd Jan Race Change -Friday 23rd Jan Race Change -Friday 23rd Jan Race Change

Ahoy skippers!

Pursuant to section 5.1 of the General Sailing Instructions the following corrections / changes are advised:

Correction

Notice of Race - Cruising Series, Section 4 Race Schedule, Race 6, (page 36 of the DYC 2025 - 2026 yearbook): the first start shall be corrected to read "1500" not "1510/1800".

Change

Sailing Instructions, Race 6: Mahurangi Night Race, (page 51 of the DYC 2025-2026 yearbook): the start time for A Division shall be amended to read "1700" hours, not "1840" hours. The start times for all other divisions shall remain unchanged.

The reason for this change is to enable the A division boats to finish at a reasonable time, particularly if the wind dies in the evening. It will also enable the start team to complete all the race starts and pack up before Friday evening meals start being served at the club.

General matters

I will be the Officer of the Day (OOD) for this race and Race 7: Round the Islands (Mahurangi).

A finish boat has yet to be confirmed so skippers should be prepared to take their own times in accordance with the sailing instructions.
